The Project

In spring 2023, Texas A&M University-San Antonio (TAMUSA) unveiled a notable campus landmark, the Library and College of Business. This significant structure blends historical and geographical influences, housing the campus Library and the College of Business under a unified roof. The design incorporates stone and glass elements to meet the campus character and establish distinct identities. This atmosphere fosters a communal environment where students can study, socialize, and collaborate. The project originated from the pressing need of a rapidly expanding campus. Its growing student body had outgrown the single existing library. Notably, most future TAMUSA students represent the first generation in their families to attend college

The Methodology

Designers were challenged with creating two clear identities within the facility that also maintained a cohesive language of the building. Glass slits and stone masses create distinctions as students transition between the College Library and the College of Business. A continuous roof along with a central atrium link the Library and College of Business together under one roof.

The Result

The Library and College of Business adds to the communal aspect of the campus, providing students with lounge areas, study rooms, and social gathering areas for collaboration.
