The Project

WestEast Design Group provided FF&E documentation and specifications through construction administration. This project aimed to furnish the new198,000-square-foot library, a major civic space located in Austin’s redeveloped Seaholm district, with a focus on creating a functional and welcoming environment for the community.

The Methodology

WestEast coordinated with the City of Austin Purchasing Department to ensure timely procurement and placement of furniture. The team planned and reviewed mock-ups, provided quotes, and developed a budgetary schedule for the overall furniture package. WestEast also collaborated closely with vendors to determine which pieces were proprietary and which could be open bid, ensuring compliance with city procedures for bidding and procurement.

The Result

The Austin Central Library now stands as a landmark community space, featuring a six-story atrium, reading porches, event spaces, and unique areas such as a quiet reading room, a cafe, and a 350-seat special events center. WestEast’s careful planning and coordination helped deliver afunctional and aesthetically pleasing space, aligned with Austin's cultural and artistic growth, on time and within budget.
