Reimagining Community

The Project

St. James reimagines a historic campus as a dynamic, multi-functional community centered around the existing church. Designed to serve students, families, and individuals, the development provides mixed-use spaces, housing, recreation areas, and community-focused amenities. With a significant natural greenway cutting through the site, the plan transforms challenges like the drainage channel into opportunities for gathering, play, and connection to nature.

The Methodology

The campus is thoughtfully organized to balance dense development with green space. The northern section integrates mixed-use retail, student housing, and the historic church, while the southern portion features multi-family housing, single-family townhomes, and a community event center. The green channel is reimagined as a series of sports fields, recreational areas, and trails for soccer, football, and fitness activities, turning constraints into assets. The community center and church anchor the site as resilience hubs, offering vital support in times of crisis.

The Result

St. James creates a harmonious blend of urban living, natural respite, and community enrichment. By converting design challenges into unique features, such as sports training facilities and a central greenway, the development fosters wellness, recreation, and shared experiences. The resilience-focused community center and church further position St. James as a place where people can grow, connect, and thrive across generations.
